Borrowed Land, Borrowed Time

The Sacramento Delta is not a land of high drama, but of quiet beauty shaped by rivers, levees, and agricultural activities. Before the levees were built, it was a vast marsh, islands appearing and disappearing according to the seasons and the tides. Now housing developments are ready to transform the land once again. I made these photographs when I lived in the area, with the understanding that what I was seeing could vanish entirely.
